Liverpool England - Capital of Culture

About Liverpool England

Historically, Liverpool was the heart of maritime Britain. This architectural gateway to the world can still be seen today - Liverpool's Albert Dock houses the country's largest collection of Grade One Listed Buildings, and forms a part of Liverpool's bid to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Liverpool has a startling range of attractions. The architecture is world-class, with more listed buildings than any city outside London. The heart of the city and its waterfront sit proudly alongside treasures like the Taj Mahal and Pyramids at Giza as a World Heritage Site. Whether you're looking for art and culture, sport or family outings for the half term holidays, you'll be spoilt for choice in Liverpool.

Liverpool has a tremendous heritage in both popular and classical music. This is reflected in the number of live music venues in the city, featuring a wide range of music, from small local bands to internationally known artists. Liverpool has a strong history of performing arts which is reflected in the number of theatres in the city, including the Empire, Everyman, Neptune, Royal Court and Unity Theatres, and the Liverpool Playhouse. The Everyman and Playhouse run their own theatre company as does the Unity Theatre.  A flourishing orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, performs in its own home, the Philharmonic Hall. The city also features a Liverpool Youth Orchestra.  Since the 1960s, Liverpool has been famous for its thriving music scene.

Three Graces Liverpool England - English Language ImmersionMaritime Liverpool

Liverpool's port, the second city of the British Empire, provided the gateway to Britain, and a window to the rest of the world, culminating in the vibrant, diverse, international city Liverpool is today. Maritime heritage weaves a rich thread through the city today, from the Mersey Ferries Three Graces on the Waterfront to the Albert Dock, home of the Merseyside Maritime Museum.

A trip across the river on the world-famous Mersey Ferry offers the most dramatic views of the waterfront and Three Graces - the Liver Building, Cunard Building and Port of Liverpool Building. On the Wirral side of the river, you can find the stunning new Spaceport attraction at the Seacombe ferry terminal.
